Today is World Earth Day, a day to celebrate and bring about education on environmental movements, and protection, worldwide. In celebration today, we’ve teamed up with a brand much like ourselves, one that cares about the wellbeing of its community and the preservation of our world, Snug, to talk to you about how they’re working towards leaving the world a better place than they found it.
Snug aren’t just any old sofa brand. They know that much of our life is spent on our sofas, whether we’re working from home, cuddling up with our pets, or getting in a midday nap. Similarly, they’re aware of how important it is to look after what we have in terms of nature and our surroundings, so that we can continue to live happily and healthily. Snug works hard to marry up these two very vital parts of our lives and aim to inspire and implement change for a kinder, greener future.
Snug’s founder, Rob, Bridgman says “”We will continue our efforts in helping the planet and people… and hopefully, along the way, we will also inspire goodness in others, so they can do the same.”
Of course, nobody is perfect and we are all on a journey. Snug are continuously striving to be better, for you, for their wider community and for our world.
You may be thinking ‘how could a sofa brand possibly have a positive impact on our world?’ Well, we all like to have somewhere comfortable to sit, a haven in our homes that we just want to crash into and feel encased, as though we’re in a soft fluffy cloud. So think how much better our impact is on the world when we buy a sofa that is not only incredibly comfortable and made of such quality that it will last (so that we’re not replacing it frequently), but that it was made in a way that has as small an impact on nature as possible.
Snug’s hardwood sofa frames and legs come from forests that are grown directly by their manufacturers, each sofa is made using the highest quality vegan-friendly materials, and each Snug box will arrive on your doorstep in a 100% recyclable box – so you can feel good about where you plant your bum.
“That’s not enough!” Snug said to themselves, and as part of their sustainability pledge, have tasked themselves with a mission of planting 30,000 trees in April alone as part of an ongoing partnership with the Eden Reforestation Project.
Eden Reforestation Projects reduce extreme poverty and restore healthy forests by employing local people to plant millions of trees every single year. So if you’re treating yourself to a snuggly new sofa, you can do so knowing that you’re doing a bit of good in the process. To date, Snug has donated over 70,000 trees to support their mission.
You can get involved in many ways with The Eden Reforestation Project, but we’re making it super easy for you this World Earth Day, and challenging you to make 12 small swaps with Snug. If we each make small, everyday changes, there is a huge positive impact on the planet.
Snug has created a super cool template that you can save to your phone or laptop home screen, and for each challenge you complete, Snug will donate 10 trees with the Eden Reforestation Project, on your behalf.
Make sure to share with Snug and The Eden Reforestation Project when you #DoGoodWithSnug so that your efforts don’t go unnoticed. There’s no shame here – whatever swaps you’re able to manage are steps in a very important direction. Snug will always be honest with you about their own efforts, too. Just like letting you know that so far, the team found they are 65% on target when calculating their carbon footprint.
Snug fit in brilliantly with our way of doing things here at The Breakdown. Rob says that Snug’s “goal has always been for Snug to be a vehicle for good and a vehicle for change.” One of their foundation rules is to be kind – whether that’s to the planet, yourself, or those around you. Even the Do Good challenges are geared towards helping people look at ways they can improve their mental health while making changes that will have a positive impact on the planet.
We’re not done yet, though. Snug always wants to push themselves to go the extra mile and have teamed up with sustainable brands KeepCup – the world’s first barista standard reusable coffee cup, and Georganics Natural – creators of effective oral care products that are good for both you and the planet. They have all pulled together to create some sustainability boxes, which are being sent out to members of the Snug community.
We’d love to hear what you’re up to this World Earth day. Whether you’re swapping out your Thursday night burger for the local vegan joint, or sewing some seeds in your garden – each step is one forward on our journey to treating our planet more kindly, and looking after ourselves in the process.
